Case study: Ramy Brook – Uptime detects AOV impacting upsell issue

Detecting upsell out-of-stock issue
At the bottom of every product page, Ramy Brooks leverages a You May Also Like upsell section to guide customers to additional products they may be interested in. This section provides a ton of value to Ramy Brook by increasing the number of products customers add to their cart, in turn increasing average order value (AOV).

When Ramy Brook was onboarding to Uptime, our team did a thorough QA analysis of their online store to outline an initial set of automated UI test flows. The goal of these tests was to provide overall test coverage across the store, so we’d have a higher chance of detecting any issues that may arise.

One of the tests the team at Uptime set up tested the ability to quick add a You May Also Like upsell to cart and proceed to checkout. This test was passing for months, running over 100 times per month on average.
However, recently this test began failing. The Ramy Brook team was alerted to this failure, and from the screenshot taken at the point of failure it became immediately apparent what was causing the failure.

The issue Uptime detected was that out-of-stock variants of products were being presented in the upsell section. This caused a poor user experience as when a customer went to add an upsell to cart, they were presented with an alert that the product was sold out. This issue was degrading the user experience store-wide for this upsell section and was causing a reduction in sales and AOV.
Since being notified about the issue via Uptime, the team at Ramy Brook has been able to resolve the issue and ensure all upsells presented are available and in stock for customers to purchase.
