How to get notified the moment Shopify is down
Shopify down detector
Shopify is an incredible eCommerce platform used by millions of Merchants around the world – however, like any software platform on the internet, it will have downtime every now and then. And when the Shopify platform is down it can have a big impact on your business, leading to a loss of sales and customer trust.
That’s why we created Uptime, to answer the question “is Shopify down?”. To do this Uptime monitors the Shopify Status Page every minute and checks for changes in any of the core Shopify platform statuses.
If we detect any Shopify problems or outages we will alert you immediately so you can take action and protect your online store.
Shopify Status page monitoring
In order to detect Shopify outages, we are constantly monitoring the Shopify status page – specifically, we monitor the following platform services that power your business:
Admin:this status covers your ability to access your stores admin page
Checkout: this status covers customers' ability to access and complete checkouts on your online store
Storefront: this status covers customers ability to load and access your online storefront
Point-of-Sale: this status covers all services in relation to the Shopify point-of-sale
Reports & Dashboards: this status covers Shopify analytics within the Shopify admin
API & Mobile: this status covers any service related to Shopify APIs and developer platform – this may be important if you are running a headless Shopify store
Support:this status covers the Shopify Merchant support service
How to check the current Shopify status
You can check the current Shopify platform status anytime from within the Uptime Shopify app.
On the overview page, above your automated online store test flows, you’ll find the Shopify Platform card – this card shows you a high-level overview of the current state of the Shopify platform. If you’d like to see a more detailed view of each individual status you can click theView all button.

Downtime alerts
When you install Uptime on your Online Store, the app will immediately begin monitoring the Shopify status page every 60 seconds.
If any of the statuses listed above change the app will send you an email alert notifying you of the potential Shopify downtime.
Here’s an example of how a Shopify Status Uptime alert email would look:

Additionally, you can add as many additional alert emails as you like, so your entire team can be alerted in case the Shopify platform status changes.

What should I do if Shopify is down?
Downtime and store issues can lead to a broken customer experience – that's why we recommend some of the following actions when your store is experiencing downtime or issues:
Reach out to Shopify customer support
Shopify has some of the best customer support in the industry, so it’s a good idea to let them know about the issue as they may be able to help you back your store back online.
Pause marketing campaigns
Prevent wasted spend on marketing campaigns by pausing Facebook ads, Google Search ads, etc.
You may also want to avoid sending any email or SMS messages to customers from tools like Klaviyo or Postscript.
Escalate the issue to your development team or agency partner
If you suspect it was a third-party app that caused the issue you should contact the 3rd party app developer for support
Check your Online Store backups
A little prevention can go a long way to saving you time, money, and headaches. That's why we recommend pairing Uptime with your favorite online store backup tool for end-to-end coverage in order to recover quickly from any issue on your online store.
